7-Eleven Australia introduces its most sustainable coffee ever

04 October 2022

From Tuesday 4th October 7-Eleven will be selling its most sustainable coffee ever with every cup sold now proudly 100% Fairtrade certified.

The game-changing partnership with Fairtrade aligns with 7-Eleven’s ongoing commitment to reduce their societal and environmental impact.

The 80 million cups of coffee that 7-Eleven serve each year will now be 100% Fairtrade certified, making 7-Eleven the biggest Fairtrade certified coffee retailer in Australia.

7-Eleven General Manager of Customer and Insights, Julie Laycock said, “This Fairtrade announcement is part of our broader commitment to the environment and a key pillar of the launch of our most sustainable coffee ever. It’s now more important than ever to know where your coffee comes from, and to know it’s traded on fair terms with fair working conditions. This means a more sustainable future for coffee farmers, their communities, and our customers.”

Fairtrade CEO, Mike Briers said, “Millions of Australians can now enjoy their coffee from 7-Eleven stores across the country knowing that the beans in every cup are bought on Fairtrade terms, helping many thousands of farmers, workers, and their communities benefit.”

“When choosing Fairtrade coffee, you’re supporting farmers to earn a fair income with fair working conditions for a better quality of life. Every coffee purchase also supports farmers to invest in initiatives that benefit their communities, such as growing better quality beans, confronting environmental challenges, and building community infrastructure," continued Briers.

This week also sees the launch of new packaging made with plants, and a continued commitment to divert cups from landfill with the ongoing expansion of the cup recycling program, and a discount for customers bringing their reusable coffee cup instore

The continued expansion of the 7-Eleven Cup Rescue recycling program sees  collection units in over 680 stores, and in more than 230 schools thanks to 7-Eleven. To date, the Simply Cups program has diverted more than 27 million cups from landfill.

To support a reduction in single-use cup use, 7-Eleven will also offer customers a 50c discount on hot coffees if they use a reusable cup.
