Leadership renewal continues at 7-Eleven Australia

7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd (7-Eleven) today announced the appointment of three new Non-Executive Directors to its Board as part of an ongoing focus on governance, culture and operational excellence.

The appointments compliment 7-Eleven’s Strategic Reform Program designed to position the company as an industry leader in compliance, business development, product innovation, customer service and meeting community standards.  

The new appointees are:

 

Ms. Sandra Birkensleigh             Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee. 

Ms. Elizabeth Gaines                  Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Retail Operations Committee.

Mr. Dharmendra Chandran          Non-Executive Director, Chair of the People Committee.

 

7-Eleven Chairman, Mr. Michael Smith, said “Sandra, Elizabeth and Dharmendra come to 7-Eleven with diverse and highly relevant skillsets, particularly in leading-edge corporate governance, finance, strategy, executive leadership and cross cultural engagement. 

“I am delighted to welcome three professionals of such outstanding calibre to our Board.

“Each of our new appointees will bring valuable perspectives to the Board’s deliberations, and help ensure 7-Eleven continues to grow while upholding our values and the highest standards in the industry.” Mr. Smith said.

The appointment of three new Non-Executive Directors continues a process of significant leadership renewal at 7-Eleven, including the appointments of Mr Smith as Chairman in September 2015 and Angus McKay as CEO in March of this year.

Background:

Sandra Birkensleigh

Ms. Birkensleigh is a former Senior Partner at PwC, having led the firm’s Governance and Risk practice for many years. Ms. Birkensleigh is a member of the Audit Committee of the Reserve Bank of Australia and serves on the Boards of the ASX listed Auswide Bank Ltd (Chairing the Audit Committee and a member of the Risk and Remuneration Committees) and Horizon Oil and Gas Ltd (Chairing the Audit Committee and a member of the Disclosure Committee). Ms. Birkensleigh is also a Non-Executive Director of the Boards of several of NAB’s wealth management subsidiaries, including MLC Ltd (Chairing the Audit and Disclosure Committees and a member of the Risk Committee).

 

Elizabeth Gaines

Ms. Gaines is a highly experienced non-executive director with extensive governance and operational experience as a group executive running large businesses and a proven track record in international business and financial leadership.  Ms. Gaines has international experience in all aspects of financial and commercial management in both listed and private companies across a range of sectors.

Ms. Gaines was previously the CEO of ASX listed Helloworld Ltd (formerly Jetset Travelworld Limited), a travel distribution business operating a retail franchise model across bricks & mortar and digital channels. MS Gaines is currently a non-executive director of ASX listed Fortescue Metals Group Limited, Nine Entertainment Co. Holdings Limited (Chair of Audit & Risk), NextDC Limited and Impedimed Ltd (Chair of Audit & Risk) and is a Commissioner of Tourism WA.  MS Gaines is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Chief Executive Women.'

 

Dharmendra Chandran

Mr. Chandran is a strategic HR practitioner with a wealth of experience in senior corporate and consulting roles across Australia, Asia and the Middle East. Mr. Chandran’s most recent position was Managing Partner of KPMG Australia’s People Advisory Practice, prior to which he was Managing Partner of Ernst & Young’s Far East Area, Performance & Reward practice (based in Hong Kong).

Mr. Chandran’s previous corporate roles include Director of HR for McKinsey & Co’s Southeast Asia Practice (based in Singapore), several senior HR roles at Westpac, the Acting Group Executive of HR at Suncorp and the Chief HR and Corporate Services Officer for Leighton Holdings. Mr. Chandran serves on the Advisory Board of Service NSW and Independent Advisory Panels on Workplace Bullying for icare and SafeWork NSW.
