7-Eleven, Australia’s leading convenience retailer, was awarded the Franchise Council of Australia’s (FCA) Established Franchisor of the Year award at a gala dinner in Canberra last night.

Chief Executive Officer, Warren Wilmot, was very proud of the win.

“We are thrilled to win Established Franchisor of the Year in 2012. We are proud to participate in a program that celebrates excellence in Franchising, and are honoured to have been recognised for the fourth time by the FCA,” Mr Wilmot said.

Mr Wilmot said that 7-Eleven Australia, like the FCA, was committed to promoting excellence in franchising.

“Franchising has been the business model that has driven our success for the last 35 years and we are committed to franchising excellence. Our first franchised store opened on May 6, 1978, making us one of the first in Australia to franchise. We knew then, and believe now, that a passionate, committed Franchisee who is operating their own business will deliver a better
in-store experience to our customers,” he said.

The company is proud of its history of supporting Franchisees to succeed.

“We have been able to help more than 2,000 Franchisees to successfully operate their own small business. 7-Eleven is family owned and operated and we are very proud that we have been able to assist our Franchisees to provide prosperity for themselves and their families.”

Mr Wilmot said the business has a large number of long-term Franchisees, many multi-site Franchisees and is beginning to see second generation Franchisees join the network. This commitment from the company’s Franchisees is evidence of the fact that the business is giving them the tools they need to succeed.

“We have a large number of Franchisees that have been with us a long time; some have been with us 10 or 20 years, with a few at 25 years or more. Many of our Franchisees are also
multi-site operators. We found many existing Franchisees took the opportunity provided by our acquisition of the Mobil retail fuels business to buy their second or even third store. We now have a few second generation Franchisees in our network,” he said.

“This recognition caps off a fantastic 12 months for our business. We were recognised for our efforts as a retailer when we won the 2011 Australian Retailers Association Retailer of the Year Award and within the convenience industry through winning the Australian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) Major Retailer Head Office of the Year Award. One of our District Managers, Lilian Mikhail, won the AACS Peter Jowett Industry Award for the retailer category, and Eddie and Nina Yakou, from our Mickleham Road Tullamarine Store, won the AACS Major Retail Franchised Store of the Year. In addition, Lilian followed up her win at AACS by receiving the Global Convenience Industry Achievement Award at the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) show in Las Vegas for the retailer category,”

“This ongoing success is due to the hard work of not only our head office and state teams, but also each of our individual Franchisees and their staff,” he said.
